Somebody Who Has Influenced My Life

Dustin Kessler is a 17 year old boy who currently lives in Germany. I found him on twitter about 2 or 3 months ago, and ever since then my life has been impacted by him in a very big way. He suffers from a very rare heart condition called "cardiac insufficiency". His story is truly inspirational in so many ways.

"What you are is Gods gift to you, what you make of yourself is your gift to God. He gave me a chance, so I have to take it." - Dustin

Dustin's dad passed away about 6 years ago from a rare heart disease that they didn't diagnose until after his death. Sadly, about 4 years after, Dustin suffered his first heart attack, which was soon after diagnosed as the same thing that his Dad had died from. Ever since then he's gone through many many surgeries(over 30 of them) and he even had a total heart transplant. Most of this all happened before his 17th birthday. He's truly inspirational to me in so many ways, because he always seems to have a positive attitude about everything. Even though he suffers from heart attacks on almost a daily basis, he always seems to be joyful about everything.

"Anyone can give up, its the easiest thing. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, thats true strength." - Dustin

Dustin makes me realize how much we all take for granted. He can't even live his life without the help of machines, and we sometimes forget how good we have it. In everything he does, he looks at the bright side. He sees the glass half full instead of half empty. He appreciates every single thing in his life, and even though he currently has a life expectancy of 16 months, he wants to live his life to the fullest. He never seems upset or pessemistic, and he's never negativity. His strength to survive inspires me so much. Even though I don't actually physically know him in real life, I know his story, and it still impacts me just as much. He is still my biggest hero in life right now, and I KNOW that God will heal him. I have full faith that a miracle will happen in Dustin's life, and I really do think that God will use him for amazing things.

"People asked me why I'm so unconcerned about dying. Im not! I have a lot of respect.. but I'm not afraid. Dont be the person who blocks your way. If you realize that all things change, there is nothing you will try to hold on to. If you aren't afraid of dying, there is nothing you cannot achieve." - Dustin
